Hello Readers,
Hope you all are doing well,
Microsoft has released the cumulative updates for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central i.e. 18.3.
MS Dynamics Business Central 18.3 Download Link
In this cumulative update MS has released a feature which was there in the MS Dynamics NAV (Legacy system) but not in Business Central i.e. Report Dataset.
In the earlier version when it was NAV, dataset can be seen using page inspect option, but in Business Central we can simply donwload the dataset into MS excel and analys the data.
As a developer I personally missed this feature, thanks to Microsoft for bring this feature back.
Let’s see, what are the things required to use the Export Report Dataset.
1. This feature is available in Business Central 18.3 and the upcoming versions.
2. Once you upgrade to BC 18.3, check whether the Export Report Dataset to Mircosoft Excel Document feature is enabled for all users or not, if not, please select for “All Users”.
3. Navigate to the User Card and check the permission set, to use the above feature user must have “Excel Export Action” user group defined on the card.
After configuring the above required steps, It’s time to test the output.
I am testing with the Order Confirmation standard report, you can test it with any report.
Run the report and select SEND TO option as below
Now select Mircosoft Excel Document (data only).
This will export the data into excel with all the dataset columns.
This will help developers to identify the data into dataset and fix the data issues of reports.
Limitation:
you can’t export a report has more than 10,48,576 rows or 16,384 columns.
